Week 2 Pregnancy
You are 2 weeks pregnant and in your first trimester. This week's key development: The Fertile Window.
Baby's Development
Your baby is about the size of coming soon.
The Fertile Window — Ovulation is approaching and a tiny follicle is maturing, ready to release an egg. If sperm meets that egg in the next few days, a whole new life begins. Your body is doing everything right, even when you can't feel it.
Your Symptoms
- Increased cervical mucus
- Mild pelvic twinges (mittelschmerz)
- Increased libido
Every pregnancy is different. You may experience all, some, or none of these symptoms — and that's completely normal. If anything concerns you, speak to your midwife.
NHS Appointments
None yet. Focus on a healthy lifestyle and tracking your cycle.
Practical Advice for Week 2
Nutrition
- Continue folic acid (400mcg) and vitamin D (10mcg) daily.
- Eat iron-rich foods like lean red meat, spinach, and lentils to build iron stores.
- Include omega-3 sources such as oily fish (up to 2 portions per week) or walnuts.
- Avoid raw or undercooked eggs, meat, and unpasteurised dairy.
Exercise
- Keep active with your usual routine — exercise supports fertility.
- Swimming is particularly good as it works the whole body gently.
- Continue pelvic floor exercises daily.
- Try gentle yoga or stretching to reduce tension.
Wellbeing
- The two-week wait can feel long — find healthy distractions you enjoy.
- Limit caffeine to under 200mg per day.
- Avoid alcohol completely if you think you might be pregnant.
- Spend time outdoors — fresh air and natural light boost mood naturally.
Preparation
- Note the first day of your last period — you'll need this for your booking appointment.
- Research your local maternity services and hospitals.
- If you smoke, now is the time to stop — the NHS offers free stop-smoking support.
- Start a pregnancy journal if you'd like to document your journey.
